The China's most southerly province and the second largest island after Taiwan is called Hainan Island.  Chinese name as ‘Hai Naam’ Hainan Island was once called the Pearl of Cliffs. By air it takes approx. 60 minutes south of Hong Kong in the South China Sea and the closest city by flight to Hainan Island is Guangzhou. The capital city of Hainan Island is Haikou and the sandy beach resort Sanya only approx. 70 minutes away. The province has a total coastline of about 1529 km and covers a sea area of about 2.1 milion sq km. The original inhabitants of Hainan are the Li people, the descendants of the ancient Yue tribes of China.

Because the location of Hainan Island in between South China and North Vietnam, Hainan has a tropical moist climate and mostly warm and sunny. The coldest months are January and February when temperatures drop to 16C to 21C and the hottest months are in July and August and temperatures are 25C to 30C.

Most western tourists come to Hainan Island the Sanya beach resort after their culture tours in mainland China, to sunbath and relax before they move on to other places. Sanya beach resort is along the entire eastern
coast of Hainan offering numerous of 5 star hotels with miles and miles of clean sandy beach. Other tourist attractions are Yalong Bay, Qiongtai Academy, Five Official Temple, Hairui Tomb, Nanshan Temple and Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden. Other islands like Phoenix Island, Monkey Island and Luobi Cave.

While you are relaxing in Sanya, Hainan Island, you must try the ‘Wenchang Chicken’ also known as Hainan Chicken Rice, is a famous dish in Southeast Asia bearing the region’s name. Most people said if you haven’t tried the Hainan Chicken Rice, you haven’t been to Hainan Island at all! Seafood is of course a favourite in Hainan. There are many places and a wide range of variety available. The best seafood can be found north of Sanya Xiangshui Wan is reputed to provide some of the best.

For those who are keen diver, Hainan offer plenty of diving activities like Skin Diving, Shore Diving, Boat Diving, Night Diving and Sightseeing boat Semi Diving. Offshore fishing from yacht and platform, bank fishing and night fishing are also available at low cost.

Night life in Sanya is best after dusk and the best way is to participate in the local life. There are also nightclubs in this newly emerged tourist city. Most of the nightclubs are in star rated hotels like Lidu Night Club at the Sanya Maintint Hotel and Nuangchao Night Club at the Sanya Guoxi Hotel. Alternatively if you want a quiet evening and stroll along the Sanya Lanhai Garden of Bin located in the Hai Road area, you can enjoy the western food restaurant, coffee shop to enjoy the sea while sipping a cup of exotic coffee or taste the charming barbecues from the beachside hotels.
