Please find below some tips while you are in China:
- If you are taking currency with you to China, mostly accept is US dollar and Sterling. However, most bar, restaurant, shop will give you a bad rate. Most importantly they will not accept any damaged notes or with any marks or writings on it. Bank will accept any notes.
- Currency in China is Renminbi (RMB) and exchange rate in China is pretty much controlled and black market exchange is moreless none existant now.
- You can use most credit card and cash point machine in all major cities. However, cash only in smaller town and villages.
- Tip to tour guide and driver is not composary, only when you feel you are getting a good service. Level of tip approx. USD10 per day for tour guide and USD5 per day for driver as a guideline. They will appreciate whatever amount you tip them.
- Drink bottle water and eat cooked food only specially in smaller town and villages.
- Make sure you obtain your local tour guide mobile phone number once you met the tour guide at the airport for emergency matters.

Hi there,
What is the charge if I use my debit card to withdraw cash from cash point mahcine in China? Can I use credit card in restaurant and shops in China at all?
John
Good morning John,
Thank you for your message regarding using your card in China. You can use your debit card from any cash point machine in China. The charges is depends on your own card issuer’s terms and conditions, please refer to their details. You will received the RMB local currency from the cash point and exchange rate is based on the day rate. Credit cards are widely accepted by most restaurants and shops but mainly in big cities. Some smaller villages and towns are cash only. Best is to ask your local tour guide when they pick you up from hotel. This way, if they tell you that the places you are visiting must be cash, then you can arrange cash from hotel before you start your daily tour. I hope this help.
